Copper Miners: Trials and Tribulations in 1913

This historical presentation is given by Donna Simons, author of Copper Empire: A Novel about the Copper Country Labor Strike in 1913. Learn more about the dangers of working in a copper mine, the nine-month labor strike, the strike's outcome and how the strike led to a tragedy that forever changed the Copper Country. Copper Country is an area in the Upper Peninsula where copper mining was prevalent from the mid-1800s to the late 1960s. It includes Keweenaw, Houghton, Baraga, and Ontonagon counties as well as part of Marquette County.
