Please be advised that the following is being published in compliance with the Waterford Township Code, Chapter 9, Health and Sanitation, Article V, Vegetation Control, Division 2, Noxious Weeds, Section 9-184:

Effective May 15, 2018, it shall be unlawful for the owner, agent or occupant of lands to enable by neglect, inattention, or conscious act, the accumulations or growth of noxious weeds of any height, upon any property in Waterford Township, or weeds, grasses, brush, or other rank, noxious, poisonous, or otherwise harmful vegetation, to height greater than eight (8) inches on:

1.     Subdivided land on which buildings have been erected on at least sixty (60) percent of the zoning lots within the boundaries of the subdivided land

2.     Zoning lots along improved streets in common usage, to a depth of one hundred sixty five (165) feet or the depth of the zoning lot, whichever is the lesser.

The preferred method of weed control is cutting with a lawn mower or brush cutter.  In instances where noxious weeds are involved, herbicides may also be used.  Uncultivated gardens may be treated the same as weeds and tall grasses.

Property owners must eliminate the growth or accumulation exceeding the limitations as noted above by May 15, 2018 and ensure compliance with the growth limitation throughout the 2018 growing season. In the event a property owner has failed to prevent the uncontrolled growth of weeds and grasses, the Township shall mail a warning notice that if the owner fails to eliminate the uncontrolled growth within seven (7) calendar days of the date of such notice, the Township shall be empowered to enter upon the property to cut and eliminate the uncontrolled growth.  In the event a property owner has failed to eliminate the growth and prevent the re-growth of noxious weeds, the Township shall be empowered to enter upon the property to cut and eliminate the re-growth of noxious weeds as many times as is necessary during the growing season of each calendar year to protect the public health, safety and welfare.                All costs incurred by the Township, including such administrative fee established in

accordance with Sec. 9-186 shall be paid by the property owner and the Township shall have a lien against the land for such expense which may be enforced in the manner provided by law for enforcement of tax liens or construction liens as provided in Chapter 1 of this Code.
