Special Election Dates Announced

It’s time to vote again!

Governor Whitmer has called Special Elections for Waterford Township to replace our 43rd District State Representative, Andrea Schroeder who sadly passed away. The Election dates are: March 1, and May 3, 2022.

Only residents in the 43rd District will vote.  Absentee Ballot Applications mailed in early January.  If you want to vote by mail, you must complete the application, sign it, and return it to the Clerk’s Office.

State of the Township 2022

Join the Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce as they host the annual State of the Township breakfast on February 16, 2022, 7:30 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. @ Overtyme Grill & Taproom. 
You'll enjoy a buffet-style hot breakfast, and hear from Waterford Township Supervisor Gary Wall, Waterford School District Superintendent Scott Lindberg, and Chancellor Peter Provenzano from Oakland Community college. 
A can't-miss-event for the entire Waterford community! 
Tickets are $25 each and are available for advance purchase only from the Waterford Area Chamber Commerce office or on their website.

DETROIT MAILING ADDRESS:
Why are tax payments mailed to a P.O. Box in Detroit?
Our local bank, JP Morgan Chase on Dixie Highway in Waterford, has a payment center located in Detroit.  This payment center saves Waterford money by collecting, posting and depositing tax payments.
Payments may be sent directly to Waterford Township Treasurer at 5200 Civic Center Dr, Waterford MI 48329.
 
           
ONLINE PAYMENTS MADE THROUGH YOUR BANK
If you initiate your payment through your financial institution, a paper check will be issued.  Make sure payment is sent to:
            5200 Civic Center Drive, Waterford, MI 48329
Do not send payment to a P.O. Box address which will delay delivery of payment.  For ONLINE BANKING through your Bank, please schedule your payment to be delivered 10 business days prior to due date or your payment may be late and interest applied.  Please note payments are posted paid the date the check is received in our office by the post office.
 
ONLINE PAYMENTS MADE THROUGH TOWNSHIP SITE:

www.waterfordmi.gov/taxes will be posted paid on the scheduled payment date you choose.

DOG LICENSES:
 
The license fees are:
            $15.00 if dog is spayed or neutered
            $25.00 if dog is not spayed or neutered
If pet owner is a senior citizen (65 years or older):
            $14.00 if dog is spayed or neutered
            $23.00 if dog is not spayed or neutered
 
2022 dog licenses are available at the Treasurer’s Office.  To obtain a license, proof of current rabies vaccination certificate is needed. 
The Township sells only the 1-year license.   3-year license are available at Oakland County Animal Control.  Please call Animal Control at (248) 858-1090 for more information.
 
Oakland County Animal Control has moved from its Auburn Hills facility to Pontiac.    
The new shelter is located at 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Building 42 East, in Pontiac, next to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office headquarters.

Attention all “Snowbirds”!  Please contact the Waterford Assessing Department with your forwarding address if you are leaving town for the Winter.  Even though you may have your mail forwarded by the U.S. Post Office, property tax bills and assessments notices are not forwarded and are returned to the Township.  Please call 248-674-6270 to let us know your Winter address.  In the alternative, you may submit an Address Change online at the following link:  https://www.waterfordmi.gov/FormCenter/Assessing-15/Address-Change-Form-75
 
ATTENTION WATERFORD BUSINESS OWNERS:  Personal Property Statements/Small Business Exemption Affidavits have been mailed out.  Personal Property Statements need to be received by the Waterford Assessing Department by February 20, 2022.  If your personal property equipment is worth $80,000 or less (true cash value), you may qualify for the Small Business Exemption. If so, complete the Small Business Exemption Affidavit along with the Personal Property Statement and return it to Waterford Assessing Department by February 20, 2022.  If you have any questions, please contact the Assessing Department at 248-674-6270.

Waterford Township Public Library Now “Fine-Free”
On Monday, November 8, 2021 the Waterford Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously to eliminate fines on overdue materials, removing a financial barrier to library access. Effective immediately no patron will be charged overdue fines by the library. Existing overdue fines are in the process of being waived from all Waterford Library cardholder accounts. The library will continue to charge replacement costs for lost or damaged items. An item will be considered lost if it has not been returned after 14 days past the due date. Cardholders may not check out additional materials, including eContent, if they have more than one lost item on their record.

Join us for our indoor family storytime. Storytimes are about 30 minutes long with a variety of stories, songs, and activities.  Children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Feel free to bring a blanket for your family to sit on.

Pick up a scavenger hunt form from the children’s desk.  Locate the pictures around the library.  Write down where you found the picture.  Turn in your completed form for a drawing entry for a new book.  A new “hunt” starts the first of every month.

Visit the children’s desk each month to see our jar of things on display. Take a guess as to how many items are in the jar, and submit your entry. You win by guessing the closest number. A new jar is displayed on the first day of every month.  Winners will be determined on the last day of the month. Prizes include gift cards, books, or the contents of the jar.

Available Saturday January 22 through Saturday, January 29 Teen Area. No registration required.
Kids going into 6th – 12th grades can pick up a Snowman Oreo Pops Take & Make Kit.  Instructions and ingredients will be included in the kit.  All you have to do is pick up the kit and then you can make these fun snacks in the comfort of your own home and at your own pace. Kits available while supplies last. While supplies last. One kit per person. Pick up kit at Adult Reference Desk.  (NOTE: 6th - 12th graders only. Please be respectful of the tween and teens as they enjoy a library program planned just for them.)

Attention Snowbirds:
Please contact Waterford DPW at 248-674-2278 to schedule to have water turned off to your home before you leave for the winter. Appointments for turn off are scheduled for an exact date and time for a technician to come out.
 
Turning the water off at the road is a safeguard against frozen pipes and will save you money as billing is suspended while the water is off. A $30 turn off charge is assessed and a $30 turn on charge will be assessed when water is turned back on in the spring.
 
Contactless Payment Options
Waterford Township DPW would like to remind residents and business owners of their many contactless payment options. Payments can be made through the mail using the provided envelope and payment coupon, in person using the dropbox to the right of our main entrance, on our website with a credit or debit card, through a financial institution’s bill pay or with Auto Debit.
 
Customers interested in automatic payment from a checking or savings account can sign up for our Auto Debit program which pays the balance on their account automatically on the bill due date. The Auto Debit form is available to download on our website or can be picked up in our office. Questions about the Auto Debit program or any of our contactless payment options can be answered by staff at 248-674-2278.
