Curbside Residential Yard Waste Collection Reminders

Yard Waste Collection Begins April 4
7:00AM ON A DIGITAL CLOCK

Don't Forget - GFL Starts
Collecting at 7:00 AM!

Waterford residential GFL customers must have trash, recycling, yard waste, and bulk items at the curb no later than 7:00 AM on their assigned collection day.
Route times change frequently due to multiple factors including road construction, yard waste season, staffing, equipment needs, etc. GFL will not return to collect items that were not set out on time.

Waterford customers off Cass Lake Rd. south of Cass Elizabeth - road closures are contributing to route time changes in your area right now. Be sure your items are out by 7:00am. Tell your neighbors. Your collection day will stay the same, but the times are likely to fluctuate.

WATERFORD DPW PROVIDING SAFE, HEALTHY SERVICES

DPW - News You Can Use!

WATER MAIN WORK
This spring/summer Waterford DPW has contracted for two sections of water main to undergo maintenance. Both of these projects are expected to take two to four weeks and will interrupt traffic in the area of the work.

South Cass Lake Rd
In preparation for the upcoming culvert replacement planned by Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), DPW is having a section of water main along S Cass Lake Rd relocated. Relocating the water main will ensure that RCOC can complete their project of replacing the culvert that carries S Cass Lake Rd over the Cass Lake/Otter Lake Canal. The water main relocation will begin on April 4th and is estimated to take approximately one month.

During the water main relocation, S Cass Lake Rd will be closed between Port Cove Dr and Bangor Rd. This closure will last for approximately one month, and traffic will detour from Cass Elizabeth Rd to Orchard Lake Rd utilizing Cooley Lake Rd, Hiller Rd, and Commerce Rd.

West Huron St
A section of water main located along West Huron St from South Lynn Ave to Telegraph Rd will be replaced. This area has experienced numerous water main breaks in the last few years and has been on the DPW’s list for replacement. This project is currently underway and should be complete in the next several weeks.

During the water main replacement, the curbside (right) lane for Eastbound Traffic will be closed. All access to businesses will be maintained during this project. The single lane closure is expected to last until April 11th, 2022. Crews will continue being in the area working on restoration after this date, but all lanes of traffic will be open.

FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING
Waterford Township DPW will begin the spring round of fire hydrant flushing in the coming weeks; at this time DPW is not servicing all fire hydrants. Fire hydrant flushing is important to ensure water quality. Staff will be performing this work in the evenings after normal business hours over the next few weeks.

The hydrant flushing process will stir up sediment in the water mains which can cause your water to appear brown, if this occurs run cold water in your bathtub or laundry tub to clear any sediment that has been stirred up. If you notice or hear of crews in your area performing this work, DPW recommends you avoid doing laundry until the crew is finished and you have verified that your water is running clear to prevent staining and/or hindering the performance of your washing machine.

ATTENTION ALL LAWN, LANDSCAPE & GARDEN ENTHUSIASTS:
As you start planning your spring landscape and gardening projects, consider having a second water meter installed. This second meter is used to register the outdoor water use for your property. If outdoor water use is measured separately, the DPW will not bill for the sewer portion of that water, because the water used for outdoor watering is not entering the sewer system. The sewer cost is the largest portion of your quarterly bill and having a second meter installed could provide significant cost savings depending on your outdoor water habits.

Current cost for a 5/8” sprinkler meter is $224 and quarterly charges are $13.62 for the first 1,000 cubic feet of use and $3.04/100 cubic feet over 1,000. Questions about past water use, purchasing a sprinkler meter or to schedule an appointment please call 248-674-2278.
