Holiday Decoration Fire Safety Tips

With the fast  approaching holiday season please read the following to help limit your families risk of fire.

  • When purchasing an artificial tree, look for a "Fire Resistant" label.
  • If you have a metallic tree, never use electric lights on it. You could be electrocuted.
  • When purchasing a live tree, check for freshness. Make sure the needles are soft and are not falling off. Hard, brittle needles are signs of a dry tree, which can easily catch fire.
  • Keep your live tree a safe distance from heat sources.
  • Live trees need water, and lots of it. Cut about one inch off the bottom of the trunk before putting the tree in the stand. Add water and check the tree daily.
  • Do not block your exit door with your tree.
  • Remove live trees from your home as soon as possible. Most Christmas tree fires occur on or after New Year’s Day.
  • Check each light set for damaged sockets or wires. Discard light sets and extension cords that are worn or cracked.
  • Use UL approved light sets. Follow the manufacturer recommendations concerning the maximum number of light sets that can be connected together.
  • Replace burnt out bulbs with bulbs of the same wattage as indicated on the tag attached to the light set.
  • Turn off all lights before you go to bed or leave the home.
  • Use only light sets and extension cords marked "For Outdoor Use" outside your home.
  • Fasten outdoor lights securely with insulated clips or hooks. Use circuits protected by ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs).

On behalf of the Waterford Regional Fire Department, we wish you a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season!

Chamber to Host Annual Awards

This year’s Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce annual gala will surely make you laugh. And, no doubt, it’s time to lighten things up and simply have fun! The Annual Dinner is our moment to glance at the memories of the past year, celebrate the accomplishments of our business community and look towards the coming year!

The Chamber is also looking forward to sharing this evening with co-workers, friends and spouses at a new venue - The Fountains Golf & Banquet. The perfect place to feature the evening’s great entertainment!

With his quick wit and commanding stage presence Jason Douglas takes his audience on a roller coaster ride of laughs from the word go. Incorporating a barrage of “pop” culture references, funny stories, and off the wall “one liners,” you can’t help but laugh at this goofy, crazy, and original talent. His ability to improv with the audience makes every show a unique experience. Jason's show pulls no punches and he refuses to sugar coat anything ... Jason tells it the way it is, the way it was, and the way it should be!
Jason performs over 200 shows per year. He’s a regular in Las Vegas and has opened for Dennis Miller, Ron White, Brad Garrett, Carrot Top, Michael Buble, Foreigner, The Doobie Brothers, Beach Boys, and more.

Join us at the 18th Annual Meeting and Awards dinner Thursday, January 26, 2016 5-9pm. For tickets and more information, visit the Chamber website at www.waterfordchamber.org.
