About the Zoning Board of Appeals
The Waterford Township Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) is a 7-member appointed board that may consist of 1 Township Board member who serves their term on the ZBA concurrently with their Township Board term, and 6 (or 7 if there is no Township Board member) residents of the Township who serve staggered 3-year terms. The ZBA is governed by the
Bylaws as they have been adopted. The ZBA’s responsibilities are:
- Hearing requests for variances from the non-use requirements of the Zoning Ordinance (PDF), and granting such variances where practical difficulties exist.
- Conducting appeals of administrative actions made in carrying out or enforcing any Ordinance provisions.
- Hearing and deciding requests for interpretation of the Ordinance.
- Hearing and deciding appeals from the decision of the Planning Commission regarding special approval uses.
