A Summer Message from Our Director

Library Director, Julie Schaefer, on bench

Summer is finally here and it brings a new season to enjoy at Waterford Township Public Library.

Summer Reading Programs kick off for ages 3 and up, including adults! Please check our calendar and website for all the details about how to participate in the Summer Reading Program. Kids record time spent reading in terms of minutes. The goal is to keep reading at least 20 minutes per day. For students it is critical for maintaining and improving reading skills as well as developing the love of reading. For Teens and Adults, the metric is the number of books read over the summer months with 5 being the goal. However, the books do not have to be a certain length, they can be audiobook format too, if that’s preferred. The goal for everyone is just to read, and have fun and earn chances for big prizes and get some smaller ones along the way!

Make sure to check out our other summer programs too. Retro Video Game Night is Wednesday June 25 at 6:30 for ages 13 and up. No registration is required. Looking ahead to July 19, we have a really fun event planned for ages 10 and up. A Mobile Escape Room is visiting the library’s parking lot. For this program, registration is required and groups of 4-6 people can enter the space for a 15-minute session. Please call 248-618-7693 to register.

Enjoy the warm weather months – find new kinds of books to read outside, play a different video game from our new collection when you take an inside break, or take a course through Udemy all free from your Waterford Township Public Library. Use the Michigan Activity Pass to find new places to explore across the state including parks, campgrounds and cultural destinations.

Thank you to everyone who participated in, donated to, or supported the Friends of the Waterford Township Public Library’s 5K Book It Family Fun/Walk on Saturday May 3. It was a great event and the funds raised are returned to the Library to use in a multitude of ways that benefit the community.

As always, I am available to chat. Stop by the library during open hours or if you prefer, send me an email at jschaefer@waterfordmi.gov,

Most sincerely,

Julie Schaefer – Library Director
